In 2007 and 2008, Petrobras made several major oil discoveries including the Lula oil field (formerly known as the Tupi field), the Jupiter field, and the Sugar Loaf field, all in the Santos Basin, 300 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. Anglo-French Perenco and UK companies Trident Energy and Premier Oil are among the companies studying the purchase of a set of Petrobras oil fields known as Polo Garoupa, seven sources told Reuters in recent weeks. It was the development of these systems that allowed us to later lift oil from deep and ultra-deep waters. In 1984, we discovered Brazil's first giant field in deep waters, Albacora. Later came other giant fields, such as Marlim, Roncador, Barracuda, and Caratinga. Oil in the sea and the first platform The P-I was built as a mobile drilling rig and was able to operate in water of up to 30 meters deep. It was the one that discovered the first oil field in the Brazilian continental shelf, offshore Sergipe, in 1969, giving rise to Guaricema field. In January 2008 Petrobras announced the discovery of the Jupiter field, a huge natural gas and condensate field which could equal the Lula oil field in size. It lies 37 kilometres (23 mi) east of Lula. Reservoir. The Lula field lies below 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) of water and then 5,000 metres (16,000 ft) of salt, sand and rocks.
